Today’s recipe is another one of my absolute favorites! I do realize that this is my second pie recipe post in a row, but… ’tis the season for food!
This apple pie recipe is from my grandma (my mom’s mom), and it’s soooo good, and (to make it even better) it’s so easy! The most time-consuming part of the whole process is peeling and slicing all the apples.
My grandma was one of my favorite people in the world; we were really close. She was the best grandma, seriously, the best. She had a way of making all of her grandkids feel like they were her favorite… I have no idea how she did it because she had a lot of grandkids, but she did. It’s been almost 20 years since she passed away and I still miss her (and of course I miss her even more this time of year). There’s something about making one of her recipes around the holidays that makes me close to her again.
- 2 Pillsbury pie crusts (because they’re easy)
- 6 cups sliced Granny Smith Apples
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp flour
- 1/4 cup firm butter
Heat oven to 400 degrees and prepare pastry.
In a large bowl, mix together sugar, cinnamon, flour; add apples and coat.
Pour the mixture into prepared pie crust and dot with butter.
Cover it with top crust, slit the top, and crimp the edges.
I had the sweetest little helper crimping the edges of the pie.
You could also do an egg wash at this step and sprinkle the top with sugar, but I completely forgot when I was making this today.
Bake 50-60 minutes.
If you have a little extra time, you can do a lattice top instead.
