Life.

Sharing is caring!

I took a break from blogging in December. As we all know, life gets incredibly busy around the holidays, so my plan was to wait a few weeks and start writing again after the New Year when things calmed down and I had more time. It’s now March, so clearly that didn’t happen; life became more and more hectic with mandatory overtime at work, my kids taking swim lessons, dance lessons, and dance competition season starting (I teach dance classes in the evenings and my daughter takes dance classes). So then I thought, “maybe I’ll start writing again when things slow down this summer.” It would only be a few more months, so I decided to wait… but as it turns out, I wouldn’t need to wait that long.

Right now, during this unbelievably surreal global pandemic we’re experiencing, almost all of us are spending more time at home. Even for families like mine who are still working right now (my husband is a Firefighter/EMT so his job won’t stop and I telework from home anyway, so my job won’t change either, for now) but our evenings and weekends are suddenly free. No swim lessons, dance lessons, tutoring, Girl Scout meetings, absolutely nothing. Everything is canceled, and we’re all becoming very familiar with terms like “social distancing” and “self isolation.”

I’ve said this so much lately, but it really is unbelievable to me that this is happening. Anyone who could possibly be reading this from anywhere in the world, is being affected by this virus. Just that fact alone is hard to comprehend. There is so much pain and suffering happening around the world due to this virus, and we’ve only experienced a small portion of it in Oklahoma so far. I struggle to find the right combination of words to describe how I feel— a little worried and even anxious at times, but also hopeful that this will be over soon, and as crazy as it sounds, I’m even thankful that (although this virus is bad) it isn’t worse. I’ve probably prayed more in the last week than I ever have— for China and Italy, the two countries who have already seen so much devastation from this, for Iran, Spain, and Germany who are sadly following very closely behind, and for every other country in the world, because if one thing has become clear in all of this, it’s that things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better. Unless a medical miracle happens very soon, our entire human population is going to be very battered and bruised by the time we get through this. But, if we all do our part, we will get through this.

I’ve added a recent picture of my apple tree that’s just starting to come back after the winter. Remember, what we’re going through now is just a season. It will eventually pass, and maybe when this is all over, we’ll all have a new appreciation for the little things in life.

Stay safe and healthy.

Stay home, and wash your hands.
